WAS IT “MEANT TO BE” ?...

“Was It Meant To Be?”

How many times have you heard that phrase?
Let's look at this more closely...

I love watching sports. When I was growing up, I played a lot of different sports — basketball, baseball, football. Now that I’m older and not into getting injured in contact sports, I still like shooting hoops, and swimming...and watching football from the comfort of my living room!

But one thing I’m not fond of in sports is the frequent reference by athletes to “it was meant to be....

And it’s not a phrase that is unique to sports. We often hear it used by people in many life situations.

But — have you ever noticed that it mostly is used when athletes win?
What’s up with that?
God or “destiny” only works when it’s in your favor?

And when they lose, they’ll sometimes say, “It wasn't meant to be....”

What?

So, let me get this straight. The games are all fixed and someone somewhere already knows who’s gonna win and lose? Someone better tell Las Vegas...!!

I don’t think so.

There is no “meant to be....”

There’s only “might to be....”

That’s what I like about sports. You need to play the game. Anyone can succeed. You never know. For me, it’s a great 2-hour display of Free Will at work in a crucible for all to see. In front of 70,000 fans in a football stadium, with millions of viewers worldwide.

It is not predetermined. There is no “destiny”...otherwise you wouldn’t bother to play the game, folks. And the bookies would make no money.

There is no “meant to be.” There is only “might to be.” Depending on the choices each player or coach (or referee) makes, a different outcome will result in the game at any given moment, during any given play.

And this isn’t just true in sports.

It’s true in life

SO WHAT, YOU MIGHT ASK?

The reason for understanding this more clearly is simple. When we get lazy in our thinking, we start creating false interpretations about how the world and our life operates, and when that happens, before you know it, we have created a whole set of false beliefs about ourselves and the world. That inevitably leads to unhappiness because our expectations about ourselves and our world do not mesh. There is a major disconnect. And in large doses, people get depressed. In a word, unhealthy.

Instead, understanding more clearly leads to more accurate interpretations of the world and how our life works within that world, and then we create more helpful beliefs about ourselves and the world, which leads to more happiness for ourselves and those we come into contact with (because we affect them through our friendships and relationships).

FINAL THOUGHTS

Life is not predictable. There are probabilities. But there are no absolutes, no ‘definites.’  As much as we’d like that certainty in life, it doesn’t exist.

So, that makes it incumbent upon each of us to “Be prepared.” Remember the Boy Scout motto?

Whether we’re preparing for a sports game, or life as a whole...we need to ‘be prepared.’ Both internally and externally.

Lots of experts exist worldwide to prepare people externally for the wide variety of ‘games’ in life. Our Foundation is expert in preparing people internally

Both are necessary to prepare us for maximum success in the game of life...to prepare us for whatever life throws at us...for whatever the “might to be” might be.
